Professional Mathematics

I am currently studying for a Doctorate of Mathematics, with a research focus in Graph Theory and Combinatorics, at Auburn University. Listed below will be relevant mathematical works and publications that I contributed to in a professional capacity.

Recreational Math

I'm currently studying for my PhD in mathematics, and my final goal is to become a professor and make a living solving math problems and teaching other people about how to use math and do mathematical proofs. So it's probably no surprise that I like math enough to do it on my own time.

Mathematics that is done for entertainment or without research or applications as a goal is often referred to as recreational mathematics. Recreational math can be done by anyone! As long as you're curious and willing to put your thinking cap on, you can find ways to identify patterns and reason about how numbers relate to each other, or how different games, puzzles, or magic tricks function.

Hell, a lot of great mathematical innovations debatably begin as just recreational mathematics - a lot of vital early work in statistics was done to investigate someone's hobby of dice games in greater detail. Now it's without a doubt one of the most active and important fields of mathematics today.

Listed below are some of my own projects in recreational mathematics - the pages often include both my own reasoning as I work through a given problem, and Python scripting that I used to examine the problem, either by helping me solve specific cases or running a bunch of simulations to see what patterns occur, especially for statistics related problems.

Quick Note: Some of the formatting for these "Articles" may look a little strange. I typically do my programming as so-called "literate programming" using Org Mode and Emacs, and the \(\LaTeX{}\) is handled by MathJax. I'll try and ensure these are all formatted as best possible, but if something seems strange, please chalk it up fully to mine own incompetence. Thank you for your time.
